Is much fun with wandering cables . . .
Knit with 1 skein (135 yds) of Jo Sharp Silkroad DK Tweed.
Gauge is 5 sts to the inch.
Has 19" circumference, measured flat, unstretched. Will comfortably accommodate heads up to 23" around, as seen on Sam my long-suffering model.
Buy it now on Ravelry.
And one you get for free . . .
Molly
The best thing IMHO about this pattern in the cable that continues through the crown decreases. Also the simple checked texture on the rest of the hat is pretty much my new favorite stitch pattern.
Molly is knit with 2 skeins of Prism Symphony (118 yds/skein).
Gauge is 5 sts to the inch in stockinette.
The hat band is 18" around, measured flat, unstretched. It will comfortably accommodate heads up to 22" around, as seen on Miss Princess Leia, who is trying really, really hard not to laugh at me as a take this picture.
.
Thank you for a very cute hat! I will be making it for my princess!

ReplyDeleteHi I was trying to download your Molly hat pattern and the file is not working could you update it please
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely, most definitely and most certainly will be making this :-)
ReplyDeleteMade it and, guess what, I'm going to make it again!
ReplyDeleteLovely pattern, I have to try this!
ReplyDeleteI'm new to doing cables and the first bit of your pattern confuses me. It says for the cable pattern "Rnds 1-7 knit, Rnd 8 C8F, C8B". That doesn't make sense to me cuz I read that as round 8 is cabled all the way around, and looking at the photo there is only one cable. Then it says that in Rnd 1 after the increase row that you P1 then start with Rnd 3 of the the cable pattern. How do you do 3-8 Rnds in Rnd 1?
ReplyDeleteI am lost as well. Some one please explain!!!!!!
DeleteI'm with you. Could someone please explain what it means? It would be great.
DeleteI'll try to explain that to you guys. After the increase row the pattern consists of the Rnd 1, 2 and 3.
DeleteIn the beginning of each row you start with p1 and the following 16 sts is where the cable goes, otherwise you just follow the instructions for Rnd 1,2 and 3. These rows are always the same, the only thing that changes is the 16 sts where the cable comes.
The cable is always 8 rows high.
You should start from Rnd 3, and the cable (C8F,68B) starts when you reach row 8, that means you just knit 6 rows before the cable starts. Every 8th row you make the cable with those 16 sts, otherwise you just knit.
Don't know if that was a good explanation, but I hope you all figure it out. Good luck :)
I agree with Andie. Where is the cable patter?
ReplyDeletePattern won't open.
ReplyDeleteWhat a wonderful pattern!
ReplyDeletequi peut me donner la traduction du point de base ?
ReplyDeletemerci à l'avance

I just found your blog through Ravelry and I can't wait to knit Molly. It looks so sophisticated and I love that the cables go through the decreases, so smart!
ReplyDeleteThanks for the pattern,
hvala
ReplyDeleteCan anyone explain why there are rows 1-7 in the cable pattern if you're supposed to start on row 3? Why have rows 1-2????
ReplyDeleteTried to download this free pattern and received notification that it containes a virus and has been deleted. Is this true? Love to have the pattern.
ReplyDeleteI LIVED IN ASTORIA MOST OF MY LIFE! I LIVED NEAR ASTORIA BLVD. MISS STEINWAY STREET AND DITMARS. WILL MAKE THIS HAT.
ReplyDeleteI'm a beginner and i would love to try in the round. I think that this will be my first in the round project :) thank you. I'm 13 years old do you think this is good for me ?
ReplyDeleteThank you so much for these patterns, really love the Molly hat!
ReplyDeletehaving quite a lot of bother with the Molly hat tbh, I did see others have posted their confusion and you replied but I am still slightly confused.
ReplyDeletewhere the pattern begins after the increase row and 2nd rnd, where you say
' p1, work 16 sts in cable pattern begining with 3rd rnd
as the cable pattern says rnds 1-7 knit, does this mean
p1, k16, *p1 k1* to end for 4 rows then on 8th rnd
c8f, c8b??
then p1, k16, p1,k1 to end for 7 rnds untill back to the c8f etc??
or am i waaaaay off? i just cant seem to make sense of it
I must reiterate this question:
ReplyDeleteCan anyone explain why there are rows 1-7 in the cable pattern if you're supposed to start on row 3? Why have rows 1-2????
If we are to then repeat rows 1-3, when do rows 1 & 2 get knit? I don't understand.

DeleteI am very lost! This is a very confusing pattern. After the first increased row, what next? Why start with Rnd 3? What happened to 1 & 2? Then, what is the cable pattern? What is going on here? I already started it otherwise, I would seek another pattern! Help!

DeleteGreat pattern (Molly hat)..thank you! I totally understand it...as most any experienced knitter would.
ReplyDeleteFor those who are struggling, I suggest you check out this pattern on Ravelry, and look at RedRaider project notes. The notes could not make the pattern any easier to understand. If you don't know what Ravelry is and don't know how to look at the project notes, then I suggest you learn more about Ravelry.
And remember, the designer GRACIOUSLY shared this pattern at no charge.
sorry were not all EXPERIENCED knitters. I am very grateful for the designer sharing this pattern; it is a beautiful hat, otherwise I would not be trying so hard to understand the pattern.

DeleteI would love to try this beautiful hat but it appears that the PDF has been removed. Can you repost or send to me? Thank you for generously sharing.
ReplyDeletePDF was fine just now, so maybe just try again.
DeleteSorry, but the posted PDF dass that it's empty. Maybe you can post it again vor fix it somehow. Thanks.
ReplyDeleteI want to make the "Molly" hat but my head is 24 inches for the hat band part. Can I caste on 110 stitches and knit with a US 8 using Malabrigo worsted and just follow the rest of the pattern as is without changes.
ReplyDeleteI've knitted the ribbing and I really want to do the rest of the hat, but the pattern just does not make sense to me. Thank you for sharing your pattern, Erin, but do you have a version of the pattern that is easier to use? Thank you. I LOVE the hat!

DeleteTruly, this article is really one of the very best in the history of articles. I am a antique ’Article’ collector and I sometimes read some new articles if I find them interesting. And I found this one pretty fascinating and it should go into my collection. Very good work! VDJ Courses
